He served as a pre-flight training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base for two years. Following graduation from law school, he was awarded a clerkship with the Indiana Supreme Court. He served as a Deputy Attorney General, and then entered private practice in 1961.

Mr. Rubin was elected to the Indiana Senate in 1969. During his four years in the legislature, he served as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and successfully sponsored many significant pieces of legislation, including the Uniform Consumer Credit Code (UCCC) and the bill to consolidate Indianapolis and Marion County governmental units (UNIGOV).

Active in the community, Mr. Rubin has served as Chairman of the Young Members Section of the Commercial Law League of America, as Chairman of the League's Midwestern Region, and as a member of its National Board of Governors. He has served on the Marion County Judicial Nominating Commission; has been a guest lecturer at the Indiana University School of Law; and is a past board member of the Alpha Home for the Aged and Planned Parenthood of Central Indiana. He is past Treasurer of the Indianapolis Lawyers Association, and is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana and American Bar Associations. Mr. Rubin was the first attorney in Indianapolis to be certified as a specialist in Creditors' Rights.
